Description
Xylene is a colorless, sweet-smelling, highly flammable liquid found in petroleum and coal tar. It has a melting point between -47.87 °C and 13.26 °C, and a boiling point around 140 °C. With a density of 0.87 kg/L, it is less dense than water. Xylene is used as a solvent in printing, rubber, and leather industries, and as a feedstock for terephthalic acid production. It also serves as a cleaning agent, paint thinner, and is found in small amounts in airplane fuel and gasoline.
